Dendrobium antennatum is a species native to North Queensland Austalia, The Solomon Islands and New Guinea. This plant is almost always in flower, if given enough light and intermediate to warm temperatures. The flowers are long lasting and have a pleasant sweet fragarance.
Light:
This plant prefers medium to high light east, south or west windows are ideal. If you live in far northern or southern climates a south window is a must during winter months. This plant will do very well under artificial lights if kept in bright conditions. Grow 8 to 12 inches from fluorescent tubes and 3 to 4 feet from sodium fixtures.
Temperature:
This plant prefers intermediate to warm temperatures with winter lows not falling below 60 degrees Fahrenheit for best results. Daytime highs can be 70 to 85 degrees. Summer temps can be a few degrees warmer.
Humidity:
50% or higher is ideal.

Water:
It is best to use rainwater, distilled or reverse osmosis water. Municipal water with a pH of 7.5 or lower can also be used. Water as the mix approaches dryness but do not allow the mix to become completely dry between watering.
Over watering can cause several problems such as root rot and infectious bacteria/fungus in the potting medium.
Fertilizer:
Use GrowMore 20-10-20 Ureafree for municipal or well water. Use at the rate of ½ teaspoon per gallon. If using rain, distilled, or reverse osmosis water, add back in 5 - 10% municipal or well water to supply the necessary calcium and magnesium. Fertilize every other watering in the summer and every third watering in the winter.
Flowering:
This species can flower at anytime of year if given adequate light. The spikes can appear anywhere along the cane or pseudobulb and it is not unusual for a single growth to throw up to a dozen or more flower spikes sometimes producing three or four at a time. The two and a half to three inch flowers can last for 2 –3 months and can appear at anytime of year. The beautiful green and white flowers have twisted upright petals. The flowers produce a pleasant sweet fragrance.
Repotting:
Repot this plant in the spring or fall months. This plant will grow in a wide variety of potting materials but we have found it to do best in premium quality New Zealand Sphagnum moss and clay pots.
